Newport Hills Swim and Tennis Club is pleased to welcome back Jake Laflin as the Head Dive coach this summer. Jake is eager to pass along his love for the sport of diving to the kids at our club. Joining Jake this year will be Cory Simmons.

Our Newport Hills Dive Team is a member club of AAU and the Midlakes Swim and Dive League, where we have won the championship eight years in a row. Each diver must complete the on-line AAU Registration Application and provide proof of membership to the club dive rep or coach prior to participation in Midlakes Diving. No diver will be allowed on the board at practice or during a meet until this is completed. AAU registration is $14 and the website is www.aausports.org. Fill out the "Athelete Application Form".

Dive Team is considered a novice diving experience to introduce young people to and encourage their enjoyment of diving. The emphasis will be in skill mastery first, followed by learning new dives, in a safe and fun environment for all participants. Each diver will learn basic skills, proper use of the diving board, entries, front and back jumps, progressing through forward, backward, inward, twisting and reverse dives at his or her own ability level.

Every diver's goal will be to achieve his or her "Dive List" of competitive dives that they can safely perform. Every team member will be guaranteed the opportunity to participate in all meets. Team workouts will begin at the end of May and the season will conclude with the Championship Meets held the last weekend of July or first weekend of August. Remember that no experience is necessary. A new diver can learn the basics of diving and have the opportunity to participate on a fun, rewarding team that promises to encourage and promote the individuals self-esteem.

2008 Schedule

Kick-off day is Saturday, June 7th from 10:00 AM to Noon! This is the only time to order your team suit and the last day to sign-up and receive a team t-shirt. Please be sure to register with AAU prior to this day as all team members must turn in a copy of their registration form before you can practice. You can start signing up for Summer Dive Team May 15th.

Note: Change to Start Date

Dive Team Practice will start Monday, June 16th with Practice Time between 7 PM and 9 PM Monday - Thursday. The dive team will practice in the evening until June 19th. No practice Tues. Jun 17th or Friday, June 20th. Practice will then move to the afternoon between 1 PM and 5 PM on Monday, June 23rd.

Midlakes Parent Meeting

The Midlakes Mandatory Parent Meeting date/time/location TBA. One parent for each diver must attend the Midlakes Dive Clinic.

Wed., July 2nd: Newport Hills @ Mercerwood
Wed., July 9th: STC/MICC @ Newport Hills
Thur., July 24th: Newport Hills @ Phantom Lake
Mon., July 28th: MIBC at Newport Hills

All meets start at 5 PM. Home team warm-up begins at 3:45 and visiting team warms-up at 4:15.

Championship dive meets
Saturday, August 2nd: Girls & Boys Junior (10&U) Champs @ Mercerwood
Sunday, August 3rd: Girls & Boys Senior (11&Over)Champs @ Newport Hills
Both meets begin at 8 AM and ends at 1 PM. Warm-ups begin at 7 AM. Team awards will be presented at the conclusion of the Senior Championship Meet.

Cost

First child: $100
Second child: $95
Each child after two: $90
