Summer 2013 Shark Swim School

This summer Newport Hills Swim & Tennis Club will be offering the Sharks Swim School! This program is designed to provide you with a second option for your swim lesson needs. Children will experience a variety of instructors and skills in a more open format than with traditional Learn-To-Swim biweekly sessions. Sharks School classes will be 30 minutes, Monday through Thursday for 8 weeks beginning June 24th.

What is the difference between the swim school and traditional group swim lessons?

Traditional group lessons are taught based on the American Red Cross Learn-To-Swim program which focuses on specific skills as defined by ARC. These skills are taught within a strict session by session format. While all ARC swimming skills will be covered in Shark School, the format will allow instructors more flexibility to adapt to the needs of each student. Students will be evaluated on a weekly basis. Students may be moved by their instructor to a group that will better meet their needs as they improve.

Will class sizes be different with Shark School?

No. There will be a maximum of 30 students at each class time. The student to teacher ratio will remain no more than 5-to-1.

Will my swimmer be required to attend every day?

No. You may attend as many days as you wish during the 8 week session.

What is the class schedule?

Classes will begin on Monday, June 24th, 2013. 10:50 AM - 11:20 AM. No Class Thur. July 4th. Class will be made up Friday, July 5th.

What is the price of the school?

The price of the program is $150. The fee will be the same regardless of how many classes you attend.

When and how do I register?

Register at the Front Desk between June 3rd - June 21st. To enroll, you will need to fill out a registration form and make your full payment at that time. Telephone enrollment will not be possible for this program. Enrollment will determine the number of instructors assigned for the school and will close on June 21st. As a result we will not be able to accept late enrollment with pro-rated class fees.

Will this program be of benefit for me?

This program adds flexibility as well as a degree of consistency to your schedule. Should you decide to enroll in Shark Swim School, you will be guaranteed a spot in the class your child needs at the same time of day for 8 weeks. You will only need to register one time for the program instead of re-registering on a biweekly basis for the next session. Your swimmer will be exposed to a greater number of instructors, instructor techniques and styles, and will have the opportunity to be evaluated on a weekly basis for progression of levels.

We will continue to offer our normal two week swim lessons between 11:25 AM and 12:30 PM. These sessions will start on the following dates: 6/24, 7/8, 7/22, 8/5. Sign-up for these session dates will begin the Monday prior to the start date. For Session 1 the sign-up date is 6/3 starting at 8 AM.
