Club Rules

General Club Rules

Although provisions for the safety of the members have been made, the Newport Hills Swim and Tennis Club assumes no responsibility for either the safety or possessions of the users of the facility.

  1. All persons using the facility do so at their own risk.
  2. The Club discourages bringing valuables to the Club, and has no responsible for the loss thereof. Those who do bring valuables should check them at the office, or use a lock and locker.
  3. All unclaimed articles will be disposed of after two weeks.
  4. Any damage to the facility or recreational equipment will be charged to the responsible member.
  5. Only authorized personnel shall be concerned with operation and mechanical maintenance of the facility.
  6. The staff may evacuate the pool whenever it deems conditions unsafe or the pool is in need of maintenance or repair.
  7. The manager or lifeguards may dismiss from the premises any person who infringes the rules, exhibits unbecoming conduct, or fails to show evidence of his or her right to the facility when required.
  8. When in their judgment conditions warrant, the staff may prohibit diving or take other action necessary for safety.
  9. No one is permitted in the pool or jacuzzi unless a lifeguard is on duty, and their instructions must be obeyed promptly.
  10. No one shall be in the deep section of the pool unless able to pass the following tests:
    1. Swim one length of the pool (25 meters)
    2. Tread water or stay afloat in one position for 2 minutes.
  11. Children in the wading pool will be supervised by the person bringing them and are not the lifeguards responsibility. Use of the wading pool is restricted to children up to and including the age of six.
  12. During Adult Swim the pool is reserved for those 16 years and older.
  13. During Lap Swim the pool may be used by anyone as long as they are swimming laps.

Spa Rules

Please keep in mind the importance of using the spa correctly by following the rules:

  1. No person shall use the spa alone.
  2. A responsible parent shall accompany all children under the age of l6.
  3. Persons should spend no more than l5 minutes in the spa at any one session.
  4. No person shall run or engage in horseplay in or around the spa.
  5. Women of childbearing age should consult their physician before using the spa.
  6. Do not use while under the influence of alcohol, anticoagulants, antihistamines, vasoconstrictors, vasodilators, stimulants, hypnotic, narcotics, or tranquilizers.
  7. Elderly persons and those suffering from heart disease, diabetes, or high or low blood pressure should consult their physician before using spa.
  8. Children under the age of 6 should not use the spa due to their sensitivity to the high water temperature.
  9. The Spa will be for Adults Only during all Swim Team, Swim Lesson and Adult Swim times.
  10. The maximum bather load for the Spa is 15 persons at any one time.

Sauna Rules

  1. Person should spend no more than 30 minutes in the Sauna at any one session.
  2. Children under the age of 16 must be accompanied into the Sauna by a responsible parent. Children under the age of 10 years may not use the Sauna.
  3. Elderly persons and those suffering from heart disease, diabetes, high or low blood pressure should consult their physician before using the Sauna.
  4. Don't use while under the influence of alcohol, anticoagulants, antihistamines, vasoconstrictors, vasodilators, stimulants, hypnotic, narcotics, or tranquilizers.
  5. Food and Drink are not allowed in the Sauna.
  6. Do not set any object on the sauna heater. Please remove all reading material upon exiting the Sauna.

Pool Rules

  1. Spectators are asked to remain in the seating/general purpose areas of the pool, not at the pool edge.
  2. Food, drink, or smoking is not allowed in the pool or locker room areas.
  3. An adult must accompany children under the age of 7 years at all times.
  4. Bathing apparel only. Gym trunks, cut-offs, etc. are not allowed in the pool.
  5. No persons having skin lesions, sores, or inflamed eyes, mouth, nose, or ear discharges, or carrying a communicable disease shall use the pool.
  6. Glass objects are not allowed in the locker room or pool areas.
  7. Non-swimmers must stay in the shallow water areas.
  8. The King County Health Department requires showers before swimmers may enter the pool area.
  9. Sustained underwater swimming with or without hyperventilation will not be allowed.
  10. Running, pushing, and horseplay are not permitted.
  11. The use of fins, masks, or other swimming aids must be cleared with the person in charge of the pool prior to their use. Snorkels and Water Wings are not allowed.
  12. Children 7 and older using the pool without adult supervision must be able to demonstrate swimming competence.

Diving Rules

  1. One person on the board at a time.
  2. One bounce only.
  3. No running or pushing.
  4. Jump or dive straight ahead and move out quickly.
  5. Use the ladders when exiting from the pool.
  6. Whenever the boards are used, on lifeguard will be on duty to restrict their use to those persons who are qualified to use them.
  7. Except for competitive diving programs, the fulcrum will be locked into permanent setting and will not be adjustable.
  8. Persons not able to swim the length of the swimming pool WILL NOT be eligible to use the diving boards.
  9. Splashing guard personnel by doing cannon balls or other means is not allowed and will be subject, to disciplinary action.

Weight Room Rules

Our weight room is becoming extremely popular. Enjoy the facility, but please observe the following rules

  1. Wear gym attire (shirt, shorts, and shoes).
  2. Do not drop weights on top of each other.
  3. Secure clamps on barbells.
  4. You must use a spotter for all free bar lifts.
  5. Secure pins in Paramount weight machines before making lifts.
  6. No food or drink allowed in the weight room. Drinks should be limited to water or sports drinks and are not permitted on the treadmills or elliptical trainers.
  7. Completely dry off before entering the weight room.
  8. An parent must accompany any child under 16 years of age at all times.
  9. No children under the age of 12 are permitted in the weight room.
  10. Children between the ages of 12 and 14 are not permitted to use ANY WEIGHT EQUIPMENT.
  11. Children between the ages of 12 and 14 should consult their doctor, have the club consent form signed by their parent and be checked off for the proper use of AEROBIC EQUIPMENT by a club employee prior to using any aerobic machines. (Please call to set up an appointment.)
  12. Please return all weights to their proper place when finished.
  13. Abuse of equipment will result in the loss of club privileges.

Tennis Rules

  1. Tennis etiquette: Be courteous to neighbors and other members while on the courts. Loud or abusive language or misbehavior will result in loss of Club privileges.
  2. The hours for tennis shall agree with the hours of clubhouse operation, but not earlier than 9:00 AM Monday - Saturday, and 1:00 PM on Sundays, and not later than 9:00 PM or sundown whichever is earlier.
  3. A member may play only once a day by reservation, and can have only one reservation on the books. If courts are vacant, a walk-on does not count.
  4. When making a reservation, state whether you are playing singles or doubles, and give the names of all players including guests. All players must check in at the front desk and pay $3.00 per guest before playing. Instructors and players will use the courts farthest from the residences as a normal priority in deference to the neighbors.
  5. Cancellations must be made a minimum of two hours ahead of the schedule to allow use of the court by someone on the waiting list. Failure to do so will result in loss of court privileges for one week.
  6. Reservations will be made by the week only Monday through Sunday. You may not make reservations for the following until Saturday. Office personnel only will record reservations.
  7. Children under 18 years of age cannot make reservations after 6:00 PM on weekdays, or on weekend mornings before 1:00 PM. For children to play, an adult must be present, either in the clubhouse or on the court.
  8. If any member of the family is found abusing the rules, the whole family will lose court privileges for one week.
  9. Reservations will be held only ten minutes unless a call is made to inform the office.
  10. Tennis ladder challenges count as reservations.
  11. A waiting list will be kept.
