2008 Swim Team Coaching Staff

You may contact the swim coaches via email at swimcoach@nhstc.com with any questions and/or concerns.

Introducing Our Coaches

Our swim team coaches are employees of NHSTC. We have one Head Coach and three Assistant Coaches. They run the workouts, place the swimmers in the appropriate meets and races, teach stroke classes, and help with various other activities for the teams.

Co-Head Coach Sara Simmons: My name is Sara Simmons and I have been involved with NHSTC since I was 8. I continued swimming for Hazen High School and was team captain and part of the state team. I am a senior at Central Washington University (Go Wildcats!) and am currently studying economics and mathematics. This is my forth year coaching for NHSTC and I am pumped! Something you may not know about me is that I love to surf, especially on the Washington Coast (yes, it is possible). I am very excited to be here another year and I'm looking forward to an awesome season!

Co-Head Coach Kim Carris: Hey Sharks!! My name is Kim Carris, and I am very excited to be your coach for another year of great swimming! I have been a part of the Newport Hills Swim Team for many years, and I have also worked as a lifeguard and swim lesson instructor at Newport Hills for the past 3 years. I swam throughout my high school years at Hazen, and also played softball all four years. I am a junior at the University of Washington, and I am very excited to be a student at the top nursing school in the nation. Whether I am at the beach or the pool, I absolutely love the water, and I am ready for another fun summer!

Robby Miller (Assistant Coach): I swam for Newport hills from the years I was younger than 8 years old to 13. I swam USS swimming for Chinook from 10 years old until 16, and my freshman year of college at UPS when I was 20. In my swimming career I have had a few notable achievements such as 2nd in state in the 100 yard breaststroke, but one of the most memorable is my 8 and under 25 yard breaststroke record set for Newport Hills. I enjoyed Midlakes swimming close to as much as any other sport. In addition, I love all kinds of sports and also enjoy activities such as video games. I am currently Finance major at Gonzaga University and plan on graduating in the year 2009. I am looking forward to having as much fun as possible while achieving every goal set for the team and its swimmers.

Marisa Chang (Assistant Coach): Hi! My name is Marisa Chang and I am thrilled to start my first year at NHSTC! I am a junior on the swim team at the University of Washington (Go Dawgs!), majoring in finance with a minor in Spanish. Prior to coming here I spent three summers coaching for a recreational team in my hometown of Orinda, California and I have swum year-round for 11 years. My main events are the 100 and 200 fly, and sometimes the 50 or 200 free. A few of my hobbies include baking, open-water swimming, and playing ultimate frisbee. I can't wait to meet everyone and start off an awesome summer!

Coaches' Notebook: Swimmers planning on missing a meet should note the reason (e.g. vacation) and dates in the Coaches' Notebook. Swimmers and parents may also enter suggestions for improvement or just pass along a friendly "hello" in the Notebook. The Coaches' Notebook is located at the desk in the main office.
